ABSTRACT

Background: High blood pressure (hypertension) is a very common cardiovascular disease and is becoming a primary concern of world medicine due to the increase lifespan and frequency of risk factors. According to the Framingham study blood pressureincreases with age, half ofthe population aged 60 to 69 years and three-quarters of the population aged over 70 years with hypertension, lifetime risk is 90%. Hypertension causes death and disability among elderly, decreases quality of life and is a burden to society because of itscomplications. Isolated systolic hypertension is common in elderly,in addition of white-coat hypertension, orthostatic hypotension, hypotension during the day / night…[2], [3],[4],[5]. 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure measurements technique demonstrates advantage because it can determine types of hypertension, dipper blood pressure. These factors all affect theprognosis, target organ damage and is independent predictorof mortality risk due to cardiovascular disease [4],[5]. Therefore,we conducted a study titled "Understanding the target organ damage in patients with hypertension by
24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor at the General Hospital in Dak Lak province 2013".
